District Chairman 2011-2012

2nd Vice Chairman Deirdre Griffin (Woodbridge)

Dear District 8 members

How quickly my first two years on the District Executive have passed. It only proves that the saying "Time passes quickly when you are enjoying yourself" is true. Being part of your District Executive has been full of fun, fellowship and friendship. And now I have taken on the role of your Chairman from Jacquie.

I joined Inner Wheel in Maldon in January 1987 and transferred to the Woodbridge club in 1991. Despite working full-time I got involved in the running of both clubs as a result of which I have been Club Secretary and Club President several times.

After studying at Glasgow University I qualified as a Librarian and a year later married Tom, a fellow Scot. Job promotion brought us to Essex "to the mutual benefit of both countries" - or so we were told!

This is going to be a very busy year in the Grifin household. My husband Tom is Rotary District 1080 Governor. I understand that it is not often that couples "do the double" but so far there are no diary clashes. I am not going to say that things are always going to fit perfectly together - but we will certainly make it all work. I am really looking forward to the year and hope we all have a successful one.

My charity for 2011-2012 is a local one, the Dominic Barker Trust, which funds research into stammering. Many of you will not have heard of this charity but it began based in Ipswich and has now moved its work to Norwich.

The IIW theme for the year is "Think Ahead - Aim High". This gives us all a chance to show just how effective Inner Wheel can be. I look forward to hearing how members are meeting that challenge as I visit clubs in the course of the coming months.

Yours in Inner Wheel friendship

Deirdre
